Brumadinho Tailings Dam Collapse
At 12:28 p.m. on 25 January 2019, Dam B1 at Vale's Córrego do Feijão mine near Brumadinho failed suddenly. A fast wave of mine tailings swept through offices, a canteen, rail infrastructure, and downstream land before reaching the Paraopeba River. The disaster killed 270 people, many of them workers, and exposed failures in tailings governance, emergency planning, technical assurance, and corporate accountability.
