Gujarat Earthquake

On the morning of 26 January 2001, a magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Gujarat while India marked Republic Day. The Kutch region suffered catastrophic collapse in towns and villages, while damaging shaking reached Ahmedabad and other distant communities.
